Bretton
Community Festival 2008
19th July, 1-9pm Bretton Park
This year's
Bretton Festival will be even bigger and better than last
year. As well as the usual 30+ stalls, fairground attractions,
bands, dance and music groups, Vikings, bar, and car boot
sale, we also welcome significant involvement this year
from all the Bretton schools in a schools football competition
which will be held throughout the afternoon.
Also new
this year are poster competitions for the under 5 yr olds
and for 5-8 yr olds, and a poetry competition for 9-14
yr olds (ages on the day of the festival). These competitions
can be entered prior to the festival or there will be
facilities in the Parish Council tent during the afternoon
to submit your entry on the day. The theme for the poster
and poetry competitions is 'The uses of Bretton Park',
and the winners of each category will receive a voucher
as well as public display of their work in Bretton. The
competitions will be judged on the day and the winners
announced on the main stage at 5pm. Any submissions prior
to the day should include the name of the author and age,
as well as contact details, and be sent to the Clerk.
Another
important feature this year will be a chance to have your
say on the future of Bretton by commenting on the Bretton
Spatial Study recently undertaken by consultants on behalf
of Peterborough City Council, Bretton Parish Council,
Opportunity Peterborough and a number of local businesses
and organisations. The report suggests some potentially
very significant developments throughout North and South
Bretton to homes, businesses and the rural landscape.
As the consultative process is about to commence, make
sure you come along to the Peterborough City Council stall
at the festival and have your say as this will be one
of your key opportunities to make sure that your voice
is heard on the way that you think your local area and
amenities should be developed.
We look
forward to seeing you all on 19th July!
Anyone
wanting a stall at the festival should contact Rebecca
Lawrence at rebecca.lawrence@hotmail.co.uk as soon as
possible.
