Bretton 2010 New Partnership for Regeneration
Bretton 2010 is an embryonic and informal partnership,
established in 2005, to bring together key local interests
to promote the regeneration of Bretton as part of the
Neighbourhood Investment Framework. It sits under the
umbrella of the Neighbourhood Investment Partnership and
Greater Peterborough Partnership. It comprises of members
representing different organisations, including Bretton
Parish Council, Councillors and Resident Associations.
The partnership is public sector led, although it does
comprise representatives from the business community and
the community and voluntary sector.
Similar regeneration partnerships are planned for each
neighbourhood in Peterborough, to fit with the City-wide
Neighbourhood Investment Framework. Bretton has benefited
first, as it was the first township to be built as part
of the New Town development.
Bretton 2010's main aim is to 'work in partnership with
local people, organisations and service providers to develop
a strategic and co-ordinated approach to the future regeneration
and growth of Bretton' (as detailed in its Terms of Reference).
It is recognised that the prosperity of Bretton as a whole
depends on the sustainable future of the Cresset and Bretton
Centres. The impact of the closure of Bretton Woods School
in 2007 and questions regarding the financial viability
of the Cresset Centre (particularly post 2010, when PCC
funding will cease) are of greatest concern.
Presently, Bretton 2010 has no legal status and the Council
acts as the accountable body on its behalf. It has an
informal structure dependent on the voluntary participation
and commitment of its members. None of the members are
paid for their participation. Involvement is because the
individuals are enthusiastic and passionate about their
community and want to contribute to positive change. Some
will have specific interests or experience that link to
particular themes, such as business development or health.
It has good strategic links with the Council's Executive
Committee and Cabinet, although these are perceived to
be somewhat ad hoc in nature.
Administrative staff support for Bretton 2010, is dependent
on the spare capacity of Council officers. It has no dedicated
secretarial support.
Bretton 2010 is a great opportunity
for everyone in Bretton with the possibility of real and
substantial regeneration for the better. Whilst the Parish
Council is working hard to take advantage of this, the
residents must become involved to make the possibilities
a reality. Please contact us with your views opinions
